The Future is Unwritten

I was recently watching an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with my kids (their choice not mine!) and the blue turtle, Leonardo, said a line that really resonated with me:
‘The future is unwritten’.
I thought it sounded like a great tagline for coaching! When I first meet with a client who hasn’t had coaching before I explain how it’s different from counselling because it’s future focused. It’s all about looking forward and having a goal. For me, one of the best parts of being a coach is that you get to go on a journey with your client until they reach their goal. Over weeks, months or years you’re helping them write their own story. It’s exciting and rewarding in equal measure. As someone who has grown up as an obsessive reader it feels even more exciting to be on the writing side.
Obviously everyone is moving forward at their own pace and potentially you will get where you want with or without a coach, but isn’t it more fun to do it with someone to support you along the way? Someone outside your family and friends who can be objective? Ask you difficult questions? And keep you resilient and motivated whatever the obstacles you face? In this challenging world it feels like the answer to that should be ‘yes’ more than ever. The statistics certainly agree with me. The coaching industry is growing at a phenomenal rate up +6.7%* making it one of the fastest growing industries around. More and more people are making it part of their lives, either long term or short term. In 2024 ‘searching for “life coach” in Google, yields 1.5 billion results.’* The statistics also showcase how much of a worthwhile investment it is ‘with 88% experiencing “significant positive change” after undergoing coaching.’
Still need convincing to try it? Surely not? If you read this far then I have a feeling coaching is in your future. It just hasn’t been written yet!
